Good poster. Clear and to the point with examples. I don't use Photoshop, so it would be useless to describe how I would implement such a thing with my own sofware, but it's certainly a technique I'll keep in the back of my mind. Most of the time when I'm looking for diffusion, I shoot with an optical diffuser. I do bring out colors digitally using a variety of techniques though. Haven't delved too much into layering and blending. That's going to take some time to learn how to accomplish properly. I would caution anybody trying this technique not to blow out the highlights of their image. A careful use of tone curves can keep a hint of detail that might not seem so important on screen, but looks so much better on paper than stark white blankness.
